Education/Workshops

During the COVID-19 theatre closures, I taught middle school (grades 6 - 8) at Poe Middle School in Fairfax County, Virginia. My classes included Theatre, Advanced Theatre, Technical Theatre, Musical Theatre, and Improv.

Poe is a federally designated Title 1 school, and nearly 70% of my students did not speak English at home. Fairfax County requires all Technical Theatre students to pass a standardized safety exam based on a fairly jargon-y handbook. I created the below workbook for my students have a more accessible way to learn the required material.

In the years since, nearly every Fairfax County technical theatre program has adopted my workbook as their standard for teaching the Technical Theatre Safety guidelines.

The Boch Center hosts a number of school tours each month, and I volunteer to participate in as many as I'm able. When groups have a bit more time, I enjoy having them try out the below 'Production Manage-opoly' board game that I created - and I'm often informed it is the students' favorite part of their visit!

Corporate sponsors of The Kennedy Center receive backstage tours for their company guests at each show in the Theatre season, and the Production Department is responsible for leading those tours. I really enjoyed making these tours special for the attendees; I created this infographic as a handout for General Dynamic's backstage visit of Hello, Dolly in 2019.
